About Joy Jegede
Putting a face on your therapist is very important and I’d like to share some basic information about me with you. I am first and foremost a human who cares for others. This important piece of me is why I chose to be a psychotherapist as I found that this specialty comes naturally to me. I will put your needs first and do my best to nurture your soul.
I am originally of West African descent, and I immigrated to the United States with my family years ago. I hold a clinical social work license in the states of Maryland (#19956), New York (#086399) and Connecticut (# 11204); and I am currently working on obtaining my doctoral degree in clinical social work. I have over 10 years experience treating mental health using talk therapy which I believe will enrich our work together. As a clinician, I am trained in Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and a certified Problem-solving Treatment provider. I am experienced with utilizing Narrative Exposure Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy and providing Coaching to my clients.
Mental health is personal to me, its more than a profession. During my first semester as an undergrad, I had some trouble with low energy, low motivation, and trouble figuring out why I felt the way I did. As I trained to become a social worker 6 years after that experience, I realized what I went through was a brief depressive episode. That realization piqued my interest in mental health and I began to wonder how many others suffered from worse not knowing what was happening to them or have anyone to talk to. I have also experienced life transitions, trauma, role changes and grief; all of which can impact anyone’s mental health.
My life has not been perfect so I hope my lived-experiences position me to do some authentic work with you. Reach out today, let’s connect and get to it!
